A doctor may order a kidney profile if a patient has risk factors for kidney disease, such as: diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, obesity, elevated cholesterol, and family history of kidney disease. A doctor may also order a kidney profile if a patient has symptoms of kidney disease, such as: Blood in the urine, Painful urination, Frequent urge to urinate, and Problems starting to urinate. Kidney function tests are typically simple and cause no side effects. Test results are usually available the same day or within a few days.
